JFC quarter-final: Roche blitz Westerns

August 24, 2015

ROCHE EMMETS 1-16
WESTERNS 1-5

Roche Emmets eased through to the semi-final of the Junior Championship with an 11-point victory over Westerns in Drogheda in Sunday evening.

The Faughart side were impressive throughout against a Westerns outfit who seem to have suffered a slight dip in form over the past number of games.

Although their league form has not been the best, Roche have kept their best for the championship and once again they were rewarded for a fine display that resulted in some well-taken scores.

The North Louth side got off to a good start and quickly took control of a first half that saw them land nine points, with Dan O'Connell, Kevin Callaghan and Conor Carthy among those to hit the target.

Just before the interval, Eoin O'Hare grabbed the first goal of the game to send his team in leading by 1-9 to 0-3.

There was no way back for the Reaghstown side after the break as Roche continued to maintain a grip on proceedings and efforts from Liam Carthy and Dermot Carthy helped them to add a further seven points.

The Westerns battled to the end and gained some consolation when Tommy Durnin hit the net from a penalty.
