Championship: We got our senior championship campaign off to a good start with a five point victory over the Sean O'Mahonys last Saturday evening. It was a gutsy performance with every one of the team putting their shoulder to the cause and actually showing that with the effort they can be a match for any team in this competition. But they must continue with the same amount of passion for the next game on Saturday night when we face another team in green and gold, Cooley Kickhams where once again there will be no quarter given or taken and that you can be sure of. They give us a right hammering in the championship last year and also knocked us out the year before; maybe we should use that as motivation to get a result this weekend.

Under 14 S/F, 12/7/15:  A hugely anticipated game against Dunleer in the grove on Sunday evening last in this U14 semi final as when we both met on 2 previous occasions we won by a narrow margin and Dunleer won one quite comfortably so it was honors even so far. Played in front of a good crowd which was a very pleasant surprise for our lads and the weather also played its part. We got off to a great start with some fine points from play but all our good work was short lived as Dunleer hit a goal from their first attack but the lads reacted quickly and worked hard and got their reward when Bobby Butterly struck for a great goal. Dunleer never give up the chase and replied with another goal which we had plenty of chances to clear but again we showed great character to pull another goal back. This left the half time score O Connell's/Stabannon 2-6 to Dunleer 2-2. The second half saw us get the perfect start when a well worked ball up the wing and some great work from Bobby saw him put Calium Woods through on goal only to be pulled down resulting in a penalty which Sean Reynolds coolly stuck away. This give us a nice cushion and although the Dunleer defence stood strong we managed to get through for a few more goals and the game was over as a contest. Credit Dunleer they did battle away and managed to get two goals of their own which we would be disappointed with but all in all it was a great team performance and a great achievement for us to reach the final which will be against the leagues strongest and highly fancied team the Glen Emmett's.
The final has been fixed for Monday 20/7/15 at 8.00pm in Darver and let's hope the support is a good as last Sunday because the lads deserve that.
For O Connell's in goals Evan Reilly, corner back Anton Mc Areavy, half back Brendain Sadlier,
Midfield Jamie Molloy, half forward Calium Woods, full forward Darragh Mc Donnell also part of the squad was Dirmuid Mullen, Reece Reilly.

Under 14 final, 20/7/15: Well what a game! We were coming into this league final as complete underdogs and to be fair the Glen Emmett's were the strongest team in our league and had beaten us twice this year already. We were quietly confident and with preparations at training going well we knew that if we were to have a chance we needed a big team effort. The game started at a ferocious pace and within a few minutes we found ourselves trailing by 2-1 to no score, not at all the start we would have liked although the Emmett's were playing with a very strong breeze. Thankfully we settled and our first score was a great goal by Harry Butterly which really give us the boost we needed and we quickly followed with another goal from a penalty which Harry slotted away nicely. This put us firmly back in the game but unfortunately we couldn't keep that momentum up and the Emmett's notched up 6 points on the trot which brought us to half time. Half time score O'Connell's/ Stabannon 2-1, Glen Emmett's 2-7.
The second half wind assisted we got the perfect start with a well worked goal by James Reilly, a couple more well taken points saw us cut the deficit to just 2 points and with time running out and up stepped James Reilly again to hammer the ball to the net. With seconds remaining and nerves almost gone the Emmett's got the equalizer and the referee blew the final whistle, final score 2-11 to 4-5. Extra time, 5 minutes a half of extra time was what was being allowed and the toss saw us defend the first half which we did brilliantly for 4 minutes until a Emmett's player got a bad injury to his ankle and the game was stopped for a long period and when an ambulance was required the referee had no choice but to call the game to halt and a replay to be organized. So close but yet so far! The replay has not been fixed yet and no venue decided but we have been informed it will be soon within the next week. Couldn't be any prouder of the hole team as they were total underdogs going into the game and they showed great character and passion to play as well as they did " role on the replay ".

Team: Niall Kennedy; Killian Wall, Mark Byrne, Anton Mc Areavy; Robert Mc Carthy, John Reilly, Brendain Sadlier; James Reilly, Lee Molloy; Andrew Mc Cormack, Sean Reynolds, Calium Woods; Bobby Butterly, Cathal Reynolds, Harry Butterly. Subs used Jamie Molloy for R. Mc Carthy, Darragh Mc Donnell for A. Mc Cormack and Jack Dunne for C. Woods. Also on team are Dirmuid Martin and Eoin Clerkin.
