Louth Senior 9 A-Side Camogie Final

St. Anne's V Mattock-Saturday 20th June 2015.
St. Anne's 2-10
Mattock Rangers 2-6

Unbeaten going into the final, St. Anne's were favourites to claim the title, but a courageous performance by Mattock Rangers tested St. Anne's.

St. Anne's had a strong start as Denise Moynagh opened the scoring with two points from play, but the lead was short lived as Michaela McCourt converted a free, followed by another point from play to level the sides. It was a low scoring first half which didn't detract from the enjoyment of the game. Both teams play an open style of Camogie with some wonderful displays of hooking and blocking from both sides.  St. Anne's took another two point lead, thanks to Siobhan Dawdry (capt) who was deadly accurate with her free taking. Another Moynagh point gave St. Anne's a three point lead. Mairéad Lynch slotted over a point for Collon before the interval, to reduce their arrears to two points. Half time score: St. Anne's 0-5, Mattock 0-3.

Once again the Togher girls had an impressive start, as Dawdry turned her defender and blazed home to the Collon net. McCourt converted a place ball for Collon to reduce the margin to four points. Siobhan Dawdry and Denise Moynagh shared two points to give St. Anne's what seemed like a comfortable six point lead.  Mairéad Lynch added a point for Collon which was cancelled at the other end by Moynagh.  With six points down, a spirited Mattock side weren't going down without a fight as they upped the ante, opened up the game and tore open the Togher defence with a barrage of attacks which soon paid dividends, as McCourt fired a snap shot to the net.  Mattock began to dominate proceedings and hinted strongly to St. Anne's, that the game was far from over,
and within minutes, a struggling Togher side were caught wanting, which resulted in a Collon goal, to draw the match with six minutes on the clock.

The game hung in the balance for a while, but to St. Anne's credit, they kept the panic to a minimum and triumphed in adversity as full back Eilish Meaney's timely puck out found Moynagh, who's stunning effort from the left wing was sent over the bar to the delight of the Togher supporters. The battle continued as Moynagh and Lynch exchanged points. With the clock counting down, St. Anne's were living on their wits to defend the precious one point lead, when a fine clearance from Linda Woods was collected by Moynagh who's effort ended in the back of the Collon net, to press home a well deserved four point victory for St. Anne's.
Others to deserve a mention for St. Anne's apart from above, Martina Crehan and Lorraine Young. For Mattock, Niamh Reid, Jane McKeon, Niamh McKeon.
