Louth success at U14 Hurling Feile na nGael

'IRISH PRIDE' NATIONAL U14 HURLING FEILE NA NGAEL

12 months after Naomh Moninne captured the Div 6 title, there was Louth success again at the 2015 National U14 Hurling Feile na nGael which was hosted by counties throughout Ulster and Louth over the weekend of Friday June 19, Saturday June 20 and Sunday June 21.

St Fechins with two group game victories qualified to compete in the latter stages of the Div 5 Cup Competition which culminated in a victory over Craobh Rua Camloch (Armagh) in the final on the Sunday afternoon.

The second Louth representatives Knockbridge competed in Div 6 and thanks to three group game victories qualified to compete in the latter stages of the Shield Comptition where they just fell short of taking the title losing out to Derrynoose (Armagh) in the final on the Sunday afternoon. 

St Fechins lost their opening Group 5C game at Beaulieu on Friday afternoon narrowly to Carnew Emmets before recording an emphatic victory over Cootehill Celtic. The following morning they took on the team they played host to over the weekend and they recorded their second group victory with four points to spare against Padraig Pearse's.

These results saw the south Louth outfit qualifying for the Div 5 Cup quarter finals where they took on Castleblaney in Kingscourt. The Fechins proved too for their Monaghan opponents where they recorded a good 2-8 to 1-1 to progress to the semi finals which were down for decision on Sunday morning.

The Cloghan Centre of Excellence in Monaghan was the venue for their Cup semi final where they had to work hard to see off their Meath opponents Clann na nGael by 1-4 to 0-2 to qualify for the final later in the day.

In that final they did not disappoint their supporters to capture the Div 5 title with a 2-8 to 1-4 victory over Armagh side Craobh Rua Camloch.

The Knockbridge club were involved in a six team group in Division 6 and they recorded two opening round victories over Newry Shamrocks and Derrynoose in Newry on Friday afternoon.

They played their only home game at Pairc an Chuinnigh on Saturday morning where they recorded a good victory over their London visitors by four points. They were on their travels back to Newry in the afternoon for their two remaining group games. Against strong opposite from Kilkenny and Cork the Louth village outfit lost both games but they still qualified for the semi finals of the Shield competition.

The Garvaghy Centre in Tyrone was the venue for their Shield semi final on Sunday morning where Knockbridge recorded a good 1-4 to 1-2 victory over An Clochan to qualify for the final later in the day.

Their opponents in the Shield final were Armagh club Derrynoose who they had beaten in their group games on Friday afternoon. However on this occasion it was the Ulster outfit that came out on top by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 1-3 to 1-2.
