Drumconrath's Sean Kane tames 'Bully' at The Hoedown

The Hoedown in Lobinstown was a tremendous success with over 1000 attending. A great night's craic was had by all in their stetsons, cowboy hats and toy guns!

The first ever North East Clubs' 'Bucking Bull Challenge' was a highlight of the night. 10 clubs took part in the challenge to see who could tame the bull and stay on the longest.

3 clubs from the Wee County of Louth - St. Mary's, Ardee (Paudie Clarke), Mattock Rangers (Terry Donegan) and Hunterstown Rovers (Shane Carroll).

7 local Meath clubs - Meath Hill (Martin Tully), Drumconrath (Sean Kane), Castletown (Robbie Hoey), Kilmainhamwood (Andy Farrelly), Nobber (Alan Farrell), Rathkenny (James Macken) & host club Syddan's very own Mark Fedigan.

First up on the bull was St Mary's Paudie Clarke who set down an early marker posting a time of 24 seconds. The tone was set and excellent times were then posted by Alan Farrell and Robbie Hoey. James Macken, the Rathkenny full-back and a farmer used to handling bulls was next up, however for some unearthly reason the bull didn't take to James and 'Bully' sent him packing early!! With tensions at fever pitch, up stepped Sean Kane from Drumconrath and the Drums net-minder gave an assured display of bull handling to post a time of 29 seconds and put him into the lead. All local hopes then rested on Syddan's very own sticky corner-back Mark Fedigan who was greeted onto the bull by a rapturous welcome from his local supporters. Mark gave it everything he had and posted an excellent time of 28 seconds putting him into 2nd place meaning that Drums man Sean Kane was the victor of night.

Sean was clearly delighted to be now called the 'Bucking Bull Champion 'of the North East. Sean's club Drumconrath received the prize winners cheque for €100 from Syddan's Hoedown in Lobinstown committee member Stephen Dillon.

Syddan GFC would like to thank all clubs and their players who took part and supported the Hoedown in Lobinstown.

A great night was had for young and old.

All going well, we look forward to next year's Hoedown in Lobinstown Bucking Bull Challenge!!
Ye Haw!!!
