Battle to become undisputed bull-riding champion of the north east

May 19, 2015

The undisputed bull-riding champion of the north east will be sorted at the Hoedown in Lobinstown this Saturday evening.

A GROUP of 10 local GAA club members from Louth and Meath are beefing themselves up in their attempt to become the undisputed bull-riding champion of the north east at the Hoedown in Lobinstown this Saturday evening.

Participants from Nobber, Kilmainhamwood, Hunterstown, Syddan, Drumconrath, Rathkenny, Mattock Rangers, Castletown, Meath Hill and Ardee St Mary's will all compete for the prestigious title as well as €100 prize money for their club.

They don't even need to be animal savvy as their task to become champion is to stay on a mechanical bull the longest.

Some clubs have opted to put their captains forward for the job while others are aiming to win by using the footballer with the most rodeo aptitude. Already the atmosphere is heating up with the Meath men determined not to allow the title go across the border to the Wee County.

Either way, it promises to be a night of ups and downs for the riders, and of hilarity for the crowd. Mark Fedigan will carry the hopes of the host club and Syddan GFC would like to thank all the clubs for entering and encourage any other local clubs up to the bull ridin' challenge to contact them via the Hoedown in Lobinstown Facebook site.

Clubs and participants that are taking part includes Syddan- Mark Fedigan; Drumconrath- Sean Kane; Kilmainhamwood- Andy Farrelly; Nobber- Alan Farrell; Rathkenny- James Macken; Castletown- Robbie Hoey; Meath Hill- Martin Tully; St Marys Ardee- Paudie Clarke; Hunterstown Rovers- Shane Carroll; Mattock Rangers - Terry Donegan
