Dundalk Gaels V Ardee St Marys (Dundalk)

It was a sunny but windy day in Dundalk as Dundalk Gaels played host to Ardee St Marys in the 3rd round of the division 1 league.  Kian Moran opened the scoring for the Marys in the 3rd minute when he finished a good move down right hand side.  Darren Clarke doubled the Marys lead a minute later after working well with Naill Eccles.  In the 5th minute the Gaels got on the board with a point from play.  The Gaels levelled the match in the 8th minute with another point from play.  The Gaels took the lead for the first time in the 14th minute when it looked like Duane Crosby was fouled but the ref gave the Gaels a 14 yard free which they slotted over.  Darren Clarke drew the team's level again from a free.    Ronan Carroll restored the Marys lead with a great point from play in the 23rd minute.    In the 29th minute Conor keenan looked to have been fouled as he was hit hard going for a ball, it didn't look like a shoulder to shoulder challenge but the ref waved play on.  Conor had to come off from that tackle and was replaced by Paudy Clarke.    On the stroke of half time, Darren Clarke lobbed a ball into the box, when everyone else was hesitating as to where is going to land Karl Faulkner read it brilliantly and punched it into the back of the net.

Half Time Dundalk Gaels 0-3 Ardee St Marys 1-4

Darren Clarke got the first point of the second half 3 minutes in as he stopped the Gaels man trying to come out with the ball and won a free which he slotted over.    The Marys domination started to show as Ronan Carroll won the kick out and work the ball to Naill Eccles who calmly slotted the ball into the right hand corner of the net.   A minute later Paudy Clarke was very unlucky, great work by his as he turned his man only to see his shot hit the cross bar, it came out to Ronan Carroll who stuck it over.  In the 10th minute of the second half the Gaels get their first point of the half from a free kick.   45 minutes in and the Gaels get another point from long range, a minute later the Gaels left only 2 goals in the game as they slotted over the bar again from play. In the 47th minute Ronan Carroll wins the kick out, lays it out to Robbie Leavy who works well with Darren Clarke and Leavy is at the end of it to get the Marys a point.  50th minute the Gaels keeper is black card after he pulled down Darren Clarke after great pressure by Clarke; Clarke puts the resulting free over the bar.  In the 52nd minute a long ball into Mark Fay is taken well, he lays it off to Clarke who finds Ronan Carroll who slots over from close range.   The Gaels were reduced to 14 as a second yellow was shown after David Carroll was pulled down.  In the 60th minute Alan Kirk moved well to find Kian Moran who slotted over a fabulous point from long range.  Just before the game ended Eamonn Callaghan pulled off a great goal line save to keep distance between the teams.  This was an all round performance from the Marys, everyone played well.  Robbie Leavy dominated the middle and Naill Eccles and Barry Faulkner broke a lot of ball and got forward when needed.
