Westerns moved to the top of the Division 3 table thanks to a 2-9 to 0-7 victory at home to St Kevins.

The Reaghstown side took advantage of the fact that Glyde Rangers were not due to play until tonight (Monday) to move two points clear and they based their win on a strong opening to the game.

A goal from Tommy Durnin helped the Westerns to chalk up 1-5 before the Kevins got off the mark and at half time his side were 1-6 to 0-2 ahead.

The Westerns remained in control in the second half and completed the win with a late goal from substitute Benny Curtis.

Stabannon Parnells joined the teams in second on four points when they brushed aside the challenge of Wolfe Tones in Drogheda, eventually coming out on top by 5-15.

Louth hurler, Andrew Mackin scored two early goals before Thomas McBride added a third from the penalty spot to make it 3-7 to 0-3 at half time, and at that stage the result was beyond doubt.

The visitors continued their dominance in the second half and added goals from Wayne Lynch and Daniel Bannon to complete a convincing victory.

Nh Malachi are also up to four points after a 2-14 to 1-4 victory over Dowdallshill on Saturday night was the reward for a dominant display in Courtbane. Despite playing with 14 men for 45 minutes the home side were always in control and finished strongly with seven different players getting on the score-sheet.

Two goals from Jamie Kelly had the Malachis in control but after his side were reduced to 14 players, Dowdallshill hit back with a Noel Finnegal goal to close the gap to 2-7 to 1-2 at half time.

The Dundalk side fought hard to reduce the gap but the Malachis finished strongly to run out convincing winners.

Two first half goals helped Sean McDermotts to a 2-15 to 0-11 win over St Nicholas in Drogheda as they recorded a second league win of the season.

Lorcan Ludden scored the opening goal in the early stages but the battling St Nicholas remained in contention throughout the first half. However, just before the interval, Peter Osborne added a second goal to put his team 2-6 to 0-7 ahead.

That proved to be a vital goal as it gave the Seans some breathing space before late scores helped them increase the gap to ten points at the final whistle.

The remaining game between Lannleire and Cuchulainn Gaels was postponed.
