Victory for St Marys

February 16, 2015

St Marys GFC V St. Brides GFC                   11.30am               Sunday 15th February

The day started off as a bright sunny morning in Pairc Mhurie, with a good crowd in attendance for the Seniors first game of the Paddy Sheelin ACC Cup. As a mark of respect to the late George Meegan, there was a minutes silence held by all prior to the throw in.

St. Mary's started well by having two good goal opportunities within the first five minutes, however had to resort to points instead, scored by John Bingham and Paudy Clarke respectively. The game continued to be a tight affair with fifteen minutes in showing a score of three points apiece. Well worked Scores from Barry Faulkner, Paudy Clarke, and a Free Kick from Darren Clarke had the Marys heading for the dressing rooms at Half time with a slender one point Lead.

Half Time Score (St Marys 0-6 St Brides 0-5)

Ronan Carroll opened the scoring of the second half with a point after one minute and three minutes later saw another free from Darren Clarke go over the bar.

Paudy Clarke then had a great goal scoring opportunity but saw his effort come back off the crossbar. Shortly after this Darren Clarke scored a point from play and St. Marys seemed to be getting on top. They followed this with another two quick points made up by a Darren Clarke free and a Ronan Carroll fisted point. St. Mary's then began to empty the bench and substitute Robert Callaghan was at the end of a well worked goal in the twenty fifth minute.  What looked like an own goal in the twenty-eighth minute from a Ronan Carroll run put an end to St. Brides challenge and shortly after the referee blew the final whistle resulting in a St. Mary's win of 2-13 to 0-07.

St. Mary's defence and midfield worked very well by only conceding two points from St. Brides throughout the entire second half.

Best for St. Marys was Connor Keenan, Robbie Leavy, and Paudy Clarke.
