DkIT GAA Freshers v IT Tralee

December 01, 2014

The DkIT GAA Freshers team travelled to Templetuouy, Co. Tipperary last Thursday evening to play IT Tralee in the Freshers All Ireland Division 2 Quarter Final. On this occasion IT Tralee emerged victorious in a very tight game on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-10.

DkIT Freshers had emerged from the group stages, with wins over Blanchardstown IT, IT Tallaght, St. Pat's Drumcondra and Trinity College. However, IT Tralee had topped the South/West section and came into the game unbeaten and in very good form. Shane Lennon was again managing DkIT, against the team they had beaten in last year's All Ireland Final.

DkIT started well and led 0-7 to 0-4 at halftime. However the Kerry men rallied in the second half and clawed their way back into the game with some superb scores from their Cork and Kerry Minor players. DkIT looked to be crusing with some excellent scores from Gerry McSorely (Dundalk Gaels) and Alan McCahey (Maheracloone), but IT Tralee scored a goal and two frees late on to go two points up. DkIT clawed the game back to 1 point, but Tralee held on for victory in a very tense last few minutes.

Hopefully DkIT Freshers will be back stronger in January for the Championship.

Scorers for DkIT were Alan McCahey 1-05, Gerry McSorely 0-3, Terry Donegan (Mattock Rangers) and Paddy Byrne (Sean O'Mahonys) 0-1.
