ST MOCHTAS 2-12
WESTERNS 0-3
St Mochtas retained their Division 2 League status for 2015 at the expense of the Westerns with a victory in the promotion play-off that was much more comfortable than they could have expected.
The Louth Village side travelled to Knockbridge on Sunday morning for this crucial encounter and from the throw in they never looked in trouble as they turned in one of their best displays of the season.
St Mochtas opened the scoring through Declan Byrne and added another three from Farrell and Byrne(2) before the Westerns registered their first score through Tommy Durnin to leave it 0-4 to 0-1 midway through first half.
The Louth Village side continued to press forward and increased the gap thanks to defenders Shane McMahon (2) and Philly Englishby.
The defining score of the half came on the stoke of half time when Westerns keeper's pass was intercepted by Colin Hoey who passed to Danny Kindlon to flick the ball into the net and put his side 1-7 to 0-1 in front.
The second half saw St Mochtas start brighter and they controlled possession around the middle, adding scores from Byrne before the game was over as a contest when Terry Sweeney saw red for Westerns. Trevor Baylon kicked two points for the Westerns but St Mochtas added a further goal when a high ball was lobbed into the square for Martin McGahon to fist to the net. Danny Kindlon added a great point at the very end to round off a good team display.
