Westerns 1-13
Naomh Malachi 2-6
Westerns are just one win away from a return to Division 2 football after defeating Naomh Malachi to qualify for the Division 2/3 promotion/relegation play-off in Louth Village on Sunday morning.
The Reaghstown side, who just missed out on the Division 3 title, had to come from behind at the break before a strong second half showing saw them through.
Despite playing against the wind, Naomh Malachi got off to a great start when they opened the scoring with a goal from Kevin Rogers. However, the Westerns soon found their rhythm and got back into the game when Tommy Durnin slapped the ball to the net.
However, it was the Malachis who finished the half on top and a goal from Ronan McElroy saw them go in at the break leading by 2-2 to 1-4.
It was looking good for the Malachis when they scored the opening two points of the half to lead by three.
However, the Reaghstown men then took control of the game and scored the next eight points to ensure they are still in contention for promotion, while the Malachis face another season in Division 3.
