Newtown Blues minor manager Colm Nally was over the moon with his team's impressive minor championship success on Sunday.
The Blues saw off Geraldines on a comprehensive 4-15 to 1-5 score-line at the Gaelic Ground to deliver a long-awaited minor county title to the club and Nally admitted that it may have came sooner than most thought.
"We were hoping we'd win a minor title over the next three years so we're ahead of schedule - we'll take that," Nally told the Drogheda Independent.
"You always look for an early score in a final because you don't know how young fellas are going to react," he added. "Unfortunately the first goal was a mistake by their 'keeper, but the second one was well worked and that gave us a great platform."
Nally has had his success on and off the field in the past, but he admits that this one ranks up there with the best of them.
"Minor's always a bit special. It's great for the club because we've only won one in 35 years. We were targeting one in the next three years and this maybe wasn't the one we expected, so we're delighted with that too."
