LOUTH U14 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
NAOMH MONINNE 2-10
ST FECHINS 3-4

The young hurlers of Naomh Moninne retained their U14 Championship title with this hard fought victory over St Fechins in the final played at Darver on Tuesday September 9. Many observers agreed that this was the best juvenile hurling match played at this level in the county for many years.

Early points from Ultan McEneaney (2) and Darren Geoghegan had the Dundalk side leading by 0-3 to 0-0 after 7 minutes of play. The south Louth outfit drew level when Sean Kerrisk grabbed the game's opening goal.

Moninne struck back with a goal of their own from McEneaney on 11 minutes. The sides shared the next two points before further points from McEneaney again and Ciaran McGlynn had their side four points clear.

As before St Fechins came back with a second goal, this time scored by Ryan Walsh to leave one between the teams on 17 minutes.

A run of three successive points including two from Darren Geoghegan had Moninne leading at the break by 1-8 to 2-1.

A second goal on the restart from Sean Kerrisk ensured that favourites Naomh Moninne were not going to have things all their own way in this final.

A point from midfielder James Prendergast had his side two in front before three unanswered points from Ryan Walsh had the Fechins in front for the first time in the match 3-4 to 1-9.

Moninne pressed forward and they were rewarded for their efforts when corner forward Brendan McCann fired past keeper Liam Woods from close range three minutes from time. Darren Geoghegan fired over the assurance point for the winners as they added to their Feile title captured earlier this year.

Naomh Moninne scorers: Ultan McEneaney (1-4), Darren Geoghegan (0-4), Brendan McCann (1-0) Ciaran McGlynn (0-1), James Prendergast (0-1).
