SFC semi-finals down for decision

September 04, 2014

Both semi-finals in the 2014 Louth SFC will take place this weekend.

At Castlebellingham on Saturday evening (6:30), Dundalk Gaels and Dreadnots lock horns, while holders Newtown Blues and St Patricks collide in a real heavyweight contest at Haggardstown on Sunday night (7:30).

Should St Patricks and Dreadnots win, then that would mean a repeat of the 2012 decider, which was won by the Lordship men.

Colin Kelly's Dreadnots got the better of Cooley Kickhams in their quarter-final and will be favourites to account for the Gaels, who are bidding to reach their first Joe Ward Cup decider in 22 years.

Pat's, meanwhile, are gunning for their seventh final appearance in twelve years but the traditional giants from Newfoundwell, now managed by Cathal O'Hanlon, will not relinguish their crown without one hell of a fight.

All four teams involved this weekend came out of the same two groups: the Blues and the Gaels finished first and second respectively in Group A, while St Patricks and Dreadnots emerged from Group B.

At the quarter-final stage, Dreadnots beat Cooley, Dundalk Gaels defeated St Marys, St Patrick's saw off Mattock Rangers and the Blues got the better of Geraldines.
