August 11, 2014

William Woods - Naomh Fionnbarra
The Malachi's made it seven wins from eight games as they swept past the Cuchulainn Gaels 3-18 to 0-1. The Gaels just couldn't cope with the pace and power of the dominant Mal's as they Shelagh side swept into a 0-10 to 0-1 half-time lead.

The Mal's forwards really got to work in the second half as the goals came thick and fast as Ronan Greene, Niall Dowdall and Donal Begley all found the net to leave the Shelagh side sitting pretty at the summit of division three. The Gaels remain second from bottom on two points.

The Finnbarr's maintained their 100% record with a comprehensive victory over an under par St Kevins side. Goals from William Woods and Darren McConnon gave the Finnbarr's a comfortable advantage early on as the Kevins struggled to match their opponents all over the pitch.

Things didn't get any better for the Kevins in the second half as goals from Stewart Osbourne, Shane Lynch and a second from Darren McConnon gave the Finnbarr's an unassailable lead as the home side claimed all the points. The 'Barrs sit level on top of division three just behind the Malachi's on goal difference but having played a game less.

Glen Emmets remain in touch with the leading trio of teams on 14 points after a hard fought victory over Lannleire. They now sit on 12 points in fourth place after staging a second half comeback having been 2-3 to 0-5 behind at the break.

The Emmets have proved difficult to beat this year and they showed why in the second half with seven points in a row to storm into a three point lead. Points from Colin Murphy and Alan Dunne reduced the Emmets lead to a single point with just three minutes remaining.

However the Emmets responded in style with three points in a row to clinch a deserved four point victory. Lannleire's promotion push looks to be over as they now lie in fifth four points behind the Emmets.

The Mitchells picked up their third victory of this years league campaign thanks to a goal in each half from ace forward Phil Smith.

Smith's first goal came midway through the opening half finishing off a good team move to help his side go in at the break 1-3 to 0-4 ahead.

The Mitchells extended their lead early in the second half with a second goal from Phil Smith which gave the Ballybailie side a healthy five point lead. However the Nics weren't done with yet and they claimed a goal of their own through the boot of Gary Shevlin. However a comeback never materialised as Robbie Coyle kicked over three points in quick succession to seal victory for the Mitchells. The Nics remain on two points while the Mitchells climb up to eighth place with six points.
