This was very much a game where the forwards dominated in this third round match of the Gerry Reilly U-16 FT played in Oldcastle on Saturday afternoon. Louth had wind advantage in the first half and they certainly made great use of it.
Westmeath's Finbarr Coyne opened the scoring with a point, but Louth responded with 3 unanswered points (Conor Wilson (f), Evan Keenan and Emmet Hughes. A well taken Louth goal stretched their lead. A Dylan Carroll pointed free by Westmeath was quickly added to y a Finbarr Coyne goal in the 9th minute to leave a singe point between the sides. It looked as if Westmeath were going to make a battle of it. It was Louth who were creating all the chances for the rest of the half. They dominated the middle of the field with great support from their half forwards.

A Dion Conlon pointed free started their scoring spree for the half. The Westmeath 'keeper came to the rescue on 3 separate occasions to save goal attempts before Stephen McCooey pointed for Louth.

'Man of the match' Evan Keenan finished to the Westmeath net after a great run in the 16th minute to now lead by 2-5 to 1-2. Louth failed to convert a lot of scoring chances before adding on 5 more points to their tally. When full forward, Stephen got Louths 3rd goal in the 28th minute , it was just reward for their dominance. A Danny O'Brien point was the final score of the half.

On the restart Louth opened the scoring with a Conor Whelan pointed free. A sideline kick by Adam Loughlin ended in the Louth net that seemed to give Westmeath heart. They added 4 unanswered points to their score to leave nine points between the sides. Stephen McCooey fisted to the net after a great louth movement, but Westmeath responded with a Ryan Norris goal. Evan Keenan's second goal brought yet a quick reply in the 54th minute by Westmeath's, Dylan Carroll.

Louth's response was two more goals at the other end (Stephen McCooey & Conor Dylan). Not to be undone in this goal scoring spree, Adam Loughlin was to get Westmeath's 5th goal.
