The race for the Limerick SFC title begins this weekend and won't be completed for six months.

Thirty five games will be played over the coming months with the final two teams battling it out for the title on Sunday, October 15th.

This is just one week shy of six months and indeed a decent run for Limerick senior footballers could see it put back further.

Ironically, there is nothing unusual about a club championship taking up to six months to complete as indeed it is standard procedure in most counties.

However, it is the lengthy break in between games that clubs are irked by as they must sit around and wait for their county to complete their championship campaigns.

Monaleen are the Limerick title holders and they begin their campaign against Rathkeale this Saturday.

Two of the five group games are to be played over the course of the next two weekends.
