April 28, 2017

Colin Brady's Galway and Con O'Callaghan's Dublin meet in the last ever All-Ireland U21 football championship final.

Saturday's All-Ireland U21 football final will mark an historic occasion as it will be the last ever at this grade.

Saturday 29 April
Eirgrid All-Ireland U21FC final
Galway v Dublin,
Tullamore, 5pm - TG4

Galway are bidding for their sixth title at this level, while Dublin can claim their fifth victory in the grade.

Both sides have tasted glory in recent year as Galway lifted the Clarke Cup in 2013 and Dublin did the same 12 months later in 2014.

The Dubs have impressed throughout the campaign winning Leinster quite comfortably, while seeing off Donegal in the semi-final. They have some excellent players in their ranks including the likes of Con O'Callaghan, Aaron Byrne and Cian Murphy.

However, in truth they have not been really tested to date but that should all change on Saturday afternoon.

Galway flew out of the traps against Kerry in the semi-final and their fast start laid the foundations for their four-point victory.

In captain Michael Daly, they have a leader that does his talking on the pitch and having defeated the defending champions Mayo and championship favourites Kerry; confidence is very high in the squad.

The Tribesmen are slight favourites at 5/6, while Dublin are priced at 6/5, while the draw is an inviting 15/2.

However, on this occasion we are going to side with the bookies and think a well organised Galway outfit should prevail by a narrow scoreline.

Verdict: Galway
