Gerry Reilly U16 Football Tournament

June 27, 2017

Dublin give winners Cavan a guard of honour after last years very exciting Gerry Reilly Cup final at Millbrook.

This year will marks the 28th Anniversary of the Gerry Reilly Memorial U-16 Inter-County Football Tournament played in July every year.

Games are always very competitive and at a high standard. Next year sees the All-Ireland U-17 Football Championship replacing the Minor Championship, which gives all the counties a great opportunity in developing their teams for next year.

The opening games are on Saturday, 1 July with Monaghan taking on Wicklow and Laois taking on Louth. On, Sunday, 2 July, Dublin play Westmeath and Longford play Meath.

Cavan who have won the competition for the past three years will not take part in this years tournament.

The competition which is sponsored by RESPA proved a great success in providing a platform to launch inter-county football careers. This is backed up with so many players from all the participating teams making it all the way to represent their senior county teams at the highest level. Indeed many went on to be Football All-Stars.
