A last-gasp free earned St. Joseph's a surprise 1-11 each draw with 10-in-a-row chasing Portlaoise in tonight's Laois SFC quarter-final at O'Moore Park.

Leading by 0-8 to 0-7 at half-time, 'The Town' were rocked back on their heels when Danny Hickey netted for the Saints three minutes into the second half. Portlaoise's long reign as county champions looked to be coming to an end before a Craig Rogers goal levelled it at 1-10 apiece with six minutes to go. They then took the lead before a plucky St. Joseph's earned a replay, which will be played in midweek.

In the opening game, Arles/Killeen booked their place in the semi-finals after wing back Cathal O'Brien-Brennan's late goal handed them a 3-10 to 2-10 victory over Ballyroan Abbey.
