Maher puts the work in

September 30, 2015

Clough-Ballacolla forward Stephen Maher admits that he has dedicated many hours to practising his free taking.

Maher hit 0-12 points during the county final win over Camross with 0-10 coming from placed balls, including the last three which came under huge pressure as Clough-Ballacolla edged past their opponents.

Speaking to the Leinster Express Maher said: "Yeah, it came down to the frees, and I had practiced well out in the field (at Ballacolla) and I had the work put in.

"I kept telling myself you've hit them from here before, so I'm just happy it worked out in the end."

The eventual winners looked out of the game by half time, but a stirring second half comeback saw them claim their latest county title.

"We finally got back level with around seven minutes to go and we just kicked on from there. We got a few frees near the end and went up by three, and just hung on in the end."
