Midfielder Kevin Meaney has withdrawn from the Laois senior football squad.

Eyebrows were raised when Meaney wasn't called into the side for last weekend's clash with Cavan, as regular centrefielder Brendan Quigley was suspended, but The Irish Independent reports that the Arles/Kilcruise clubman had dropped himself off the panel the previous week.

Laois currently lie bottom of Division TWo and the loss of Meaney added to the withdrawal of Conor Meredith, who is focussing on his studies, and the unavailability of Craig Rogers and MJ Tierney piles further pressure on manager tomas O Flatharta.
