A new hurling club has been formed in Laois and is the latest addition to the GAA fraternity.

Slieve Margy will compete at underage and adult level in the Laois hurling championships in 2015 after five noted football clubs in the area agreed to form a hurling club.

St Joseph's, Barrowhouse, Arles-Killeen, Crettyard and Ballylinan have all agreed to put players forward for the new hurling club, while players from Arles-Kilcruise will also be available to play.

The club will play in the Junior B championship at adult level and there will be teams all the way down to under-8.

Current Slieve Margy joint-chairman Michael Condron admitted to the Leinster Express that the whole affair has come to fruition in a matter of months.

"It is great for all the clubs involved," said Condron. "We (St Joseph's-Barrowhouse) were hurling on our own up to under-16, and we have two lads on the county minor panel this year.

"We wanted adult hurling for them but we weren't able to hurl on our own, so we approached the other teams in the area."
