A new hurling club was formed in Laois last night.

Slieve Margy was founded following an open meeting in Ballylinan, which is traditionally a football area. The new club is committed to fielding teams from U8 up to junior level.

It is certainly a very welcome development at a time when dwindling playing numbers is forcing many rural clubs to amalgamate or at least consider it.
