Kerry Ladies updates

October 05, 2015

Commiserations to Na Gaeil & Spa/Rathmore ladies who were in Munster Club action the weekend. On Saturday Na Gaeil faced Fermoy of Cork in the Intermediate Semi Final & unfortunately the Cork champions went out ahead early in the game, leaving the Tralee side always playing catch up. In the end Fermoy came out on top, on a final score of Fermoy 4-15 Na Gaeil 1-08, Ayesha Roche with the goal for Na Gaeil. On Sunday in the Munster B Semi Final, combination side Spa/Rathmore faced a daunting task against club specialists The Banner of Clare, who are an extremely strong club side & are an experienced outfit. The Clare side got off to a lighting start with a few early points & continued to attack the Kerry club team, where they finally got a goal. Half time score The Banner 1-16, Spa/Rathmore 0-04. With a strong wind assisting them in the second half, The Banner upped the tempo considerably & added further scores including 4 goals. Unfortunately it just wasn't to be Kerry clubs weekend, final score Spa/Rathmore 0-06 The Banner Clare 5-22.
Well done to both our U12 Development Squads who were in action on Saturday in a mini blitz. Over 120 girls from both the Tralee & Killarney centres were in action. Both centres played each other in a series of games, to prepare for the Inter County Blitz in Clare. It was a fantastic day of football with players demonstrating the skills learned over the past few months. Many thanks to the coaches who have dedicated their time the past few weeks & to Kerins O'Rahillys for use of facilities.
Congratulations to Kilcummin who won the Mary Jo Curran Shield final on Sunday defeating Causeway. The game held in Causeway was a difficult fixture for the home side, who were missing many of the their key players due to injury & college commitments. The home sided started brightly with Elaine Ryall dominating midfield, however they failed to convert their possession with attacks breaking down & some poor shooting. While the East Kerry side where lively up front with county minor star Eilish O'Leary causing all sorts of problems, as she scored the majority of their first half score of 2-07. The second half continued in much the same vein, with Debbie Murphy able assisting Eilish O'Leary, contributing some very good points & striking a well hit penalty. Final score Kilcummin 4-09 Causeway 1-02. Captain Debbie Murphy accepted the title from Kerry Ladies PRO Imelda Roche.
On Wednesday sees the Third Year post primary school blitz, which will be held in Fossa. The First Year School blitz held recently in Duagh was an overwhelming success with demand high among players & teachers for more such blitzes. Best of luck to the schools participating.
