Cork's Rena Buckley

Cork's incredible reign continues after a thrilling two-game battle with gallant Galway but the Rebels needed one of their 'golden oldies' to get them over the line in the Tesco Homegrown National Football League Final replay at Portlaoise.

Rena Buckley stepped up to kick the winning point from play in the closing minutes of Cork's 0-14 to 1-10 victory, and incredibly, the midfielder has now won 18 senior national football medals.

"Ah there was a small bit of space and I just thought I'd go through and give it a lash," says the unassuming Buckley on her winner.

Veteran Valerie Mulcahy admits that Galway being reduced to 14 players in the closing stages was a key factor, while captain Ciara O'Sullivan says it is 'an honour' to follow in a rich tradition of Cork captains lifting the trophy.
