London Ladies Football notes

September 18, 2014

Saturday saw some massive score lines in the semi finals of the All Britain Junior and Intermediate Ladies Football Championship.
In the Junior competition, St Anthony's of Reading travelled to Liverpool to take on last years beaten finalists Wolfe Tones. The Liverpool side were on fire and completely outplayed the Reading girls, winning on a scoreline of 7.21 to 1.02, they will face Thomas McCurtains of London, in the All Britain Junior Final, in Birmingham on Saturday October 4th. Thomas Mc Curtains won through to the final, when Roger Casements of Coventry were unable to field and had to concede the match.
It remains to be seen if the Junior Shield final for loosing semi finalists will now take place, as Roger Casements may not be allowed to continue, which would leave St Anthony's as shield winners.
At the same venue the local John Mitchel's took on London's Fulham Irish. the Liverpool girls were runners up last year to an exceptional Fr Murphy's side, and have a fierce determination to go on better this year, in probably what was the most competitive of all the semi finals, John Mitchel's ran out winners on a score line of 4.16 to Fulham's 3.06
They will now meet last years Junior All Ireland finalists Dunedin Connolly's who entertained London 's Holloway Gaels in Edinburgh and posted the biggest tally of the day winning on a score of 9.13 to Holloway's 3-04, Connolly's determined to add the Provincial Intermediate title to the Junior title they won last year, it was a difficult day for the Londoners leaving home in the early hours of the morning to travel by train to Edinburgh and then to find there opponents in such clinical form, was not easy.
Both Dunedin and John Mitchel's met in the final of the Northern area group , a few weeks ago, when after a very close game, the Liverpool girls won the game with a penalty in the last seconds, which sets it up for an intriguing Provincial decider.
The provincial finals day will line up like this
Junior Shield Final
St Anthony's v Roger Casements (to be confirmed)
Junior Championship Final
Thomas McCurtains v Wolfe Tones
Intermediate Shield Final
Fulham Irish v Holloway Gaels
Intermediate Championship Final
Dunedin Connolly's v John Mitchel's

All games scheduled for Birmingham on October 4th
