Kilkenny's Padraig Walsh has revealed that he is driven by the success of previous Kilkenny teams and that of his brother Tommy.

The younger Walsh brother got to see first-hand what it was like to be so successful with the Cats as Tommy earned nine All-Irelands, ten Leinsters, seven NHL titles and nine All-Stars.

Padraig is following in his brother's footsteps and is on his way to emulating his achievements and the Tullaroan man admitted to the Kilkenny People that is what he wanted to do from a very young age, although he agreed that he has plenty to catch up on.

"Definitely yeah, just seeing it so close to home," said Walsh. "We had a few lads from home that hurled with Kilkenny and seeing them coming into the primary schools with cups, it does really drive you on and it's something you want to do yourself.

"My first year on the panel was 2013 and we didn't even get to a Leinster final you know, and Kilkenny hadn't won a Leinster final in two years at that stage.

"So it's still very important for us to win Leinster because we knew what it's like not to win it as well."
