Kerry manager Ciaran Carey believes his side are ready to make their bow in the Leinster SHC.

Sunday will mark a piece of GAA history as the Kingdom play in their first ever Leinster SHC as they host Carlow at Austin Stack Park.

Carey's charges are favourites to come through the round robin series and the Limerick native admitted to the Kerryman that expectations within the county are high.

"Expectation will be slightly higher," said Carey. "I believe it will be like it was before our last league game here in Austin Stack Park against Laois.

"I think it was 57 years since we last beat Laois in the league and thankfully we beat them twice in the space of two months so it's a matter of staying on top of the lads' mentality and keeping them grounded.

"If we drop our level Carlow will be confident of winning obviously, but if we maintain the standard that we have set ourselves then I think the scoreboard at that stage then usually looks after itself."
