Cian O'Neill's name will go before the Kildare County Board on Tuesday night for ratification as new senior football team manager while Limerick's Joe Quaid is taking over as hurling manager.

Kildare County Board has just announced that Moorefield clubman O'Neill is leaving Eamonn Fitzmaurice's Kerry backroom team to take on the challenge of reviving the Lilywhites' fortunes following their 27 point All-Ireland SFC quarter-final hammering, ironically, at the hands of the Kingdom.

One of the most highly respected coaches in GAA circles, O'Neill has also enjoyed successful stints as physical trainer with the Tipperary hurlers and Mayo footballers in the past.

Back in 2013, he admitted that the opportunity to manage his native county would be too good to turn down: "I love coaching as well, I could coach for 20 years, but when a management job comes that I think would be right for me and was offered, I would take it, especially Kildare."

Meanwhile, former Limerick goalkeeper Quaid will replace Brian Lawlor as the county's senior hurling manager.

Quaid has a wealth of experience in coaching having managed Limerick camogie and underage teams in the past.

Adrian O'Sullivan and Willie Banks will be members of his management team.

The Management committee of Kildare GAA will be putting forward Cian O Neill for ratification for Kildare Senior football manager on a 3 year term at Tuesday nights Co Board meeting
