From a coma to county final success

Limerick's Daragh Fanning

A Limerick hurler has gone from being in a coma in February to winning a county under-21 medal this week.

Pallasgreen defender Daragh Fanning has had a remarkable journey over the last couple of months as his life was in the balance just two months ago.

The eighteen-year-old, who is sitting his leaving cert this year, was involved in a car accident in Cappamore. His head took the brunt of the collision into a wall and he was placed in an induced coma at University Hospital Limerick.

It was feared that Daragh may have suffered brain damage, but when he was brought round from the coma, some of his first words to his father were to say that he would be back for the first round of the championship.

The youngster did better than that as he came on as a second half substitute for Abbey School at Croke, but there was to be no fairytale ending in that match.

However, he managed to get a goal as Pallasgreen lifted the county B title earlier this week as they cruised to a comfortable win over Killacolla Gaels.
