"You'll be lucky to see Lar in the championship"

Eoin Kelly isn't optimistic about the chances of his former Tipp team-mate Lar Corbett seeing championship action this summer.

Thurles Sarsfields clubman Corbett is currently struggling with a knee injury and, speaking to The Irish Independent, Kelly said: "He hasn't done anything so far in training of the high intensity stuff.

"And that's good for the head, never mind the body. It's good to think 'Oh I got through that I'll get through 50-55 minutes of championship pace.'

"If Lar's application to training is good for three months he can give Tipperary something in the Championship.

"But at the minute, his application is struggling because he is carrying an injury. I'd say you'd be lucky to see him in the championship because of injury."

The Mullinahone man is at a loss to explain the Premier County's slow start to this year's Division 1A campaign.

Eamonn O'Shea's charges make the short trip to Ennis this weekend before entertaining Kilkenny at home on Sunday week.

"I thought after losing the All-Ireland last year, they would have hit the ground mad for road.

"Mentally Tipp need to be right this year. But even though every game is important in the league, the most important is the Kilkenny game.

"Tipp have to win that game. If they don't win any other game in the league, they have to win that game. Because we've only beaten them once in the last (12) matches.

He added: "There's a barrier to break there and you might have to start small, and that's why that league game is so important."
