Offaly's James Rigney has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

Rigney has cited work commitments as the main reason for his decision to retire as the hectic training schedule takes its toll.

The 29-year-old made his inter-county league debut in 2007 when he came on against Cork and he made his championship debut against Dublin a year later.

The Kinnitty hurler made 47 appearances for Offaly during that time lining out mainly in defence, but midfield also.

Rigney follows Rory Hanniffy and Kevin Rigney into retirement and his last appearance for the Faithful County came in last year's Leinster championship clash against Kilkenny.
