Joe Canning is expected to miss Galway's first two Allianz Hurling League games after sustaining a nasty finger injury against Offaly yesterday.

Introduced at half-time for his first competitive appearance of the season, the Portumna sharpshooter scored a goal with his first touch, but was forced off with the injury three minutes from the end and looks set to miss the Division 1A games against Clare and Tipperary on February 15 and 22 respectively.

He will definitely miss the Tribesmen's Walsh Cup semi-final against Carlow next weekend.

"It's dislocated and maybe even broken. Injuries are awful hard this time of the year. Guys are coming back from one injury and into another one," Galway manager Anthony Cunningham bemoaned.

Canning's injury overshadowed Galway's facile 2-22 to 1-13 victory in Tullamore.
