Ciaran McDonald is poised to replace the late Dermot Hogan as Offaly U21 hurling manager.

The Brosna Gaels clubman, who served as a selector under Hogan this year, wasn't ratified at last night's county board meeting. However, his appointment is expected to be rubberstamped at next month's meeting.

The vacancy arose following Hogan's tragic death on the family farm in Coolderry during the summer.

Offaly also have a vacancy for the position of minor football manager after Pascal Kellaghan was forced to step down after just one season for personal reasons.
