A London county hurler nearly lost an ear in an incident that took place during a club game last weekend.

London full-back Rory Foy was playing in the Ryan Cup semi-final with his club St Gabriel's at Ruislip on Sunday and was lining up for a shot a goal when a Brother Pearse player challenged him.

The rival player's hurl made contact with the left side of Foy's head and he was taken to Northwick Park hospital where he waited 12 hours for doctors to re-stitch his left ear.

Speaking to The Irish World, Galway native Foy - who has been living in London since July 2013 - revealed the incident has forced him to rethink his hurling future.

"I am due an operation on my knee anyway so I will be out for a few months but I will have to think about it [playing again]," he said.
