Laois SHC: Rathdowney succeed at second attempt

September 22, 2014

O'Loughlin Gaels Brian Hogan gets away from Rathdowney/erril's Shane Dollard during the Leinster Club SHC.

Rathdowney-Errill recovered from the concession of three first half goals to beat Abbeyleix by 4-19 to 3-10 in yesterday's Laois SHC semi-final replay.

The 2012 champions will face holders Camross in the final next Sunday at 5pm in O'Moore Park. Aided by goals from Eoghan Fennelly and Rory McEvoy, Abbeyleix opened up an early lead, but two Tadhg Dowling majors helped the winners to a 2-11 to 3-5 interval lead.

It remained in the balance until Damien Bowe netted twice late on to seal a 4-19 to 3-10 victory.

Following the weekend's Laois SFC quarter-final action, eight-in-a-row chasing Portlaoise have been paired with O'Dempsey's in the semi-final, while Graiguecullen will meet Arles-Killeen in the other last-four tie.
