Old rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion will contest the Waterford SHC final for the first time since 2006 after the former edged out Dungarvan by 0-17 to 1-12 in a dramatic semi-final at Fraher Field this evening.
Fergal Hartley's charges survived a late scare, when Liam Ryan missed an open goal for the home side, to progress to their fifth decider in six years. County star Pauric Mahony scored 0-9, including four of the last five points as the Gunners finished the stronger.
The winners led by 0-10 to 0-9 at half-time, but it looked as if Dungarvan would prevail when Ryan Donnelly's goal midway through the second half to help them to a 1-12 to 0-12 lead. Young Patrick Curran also posted 0-8, but Ballygunner's experience told in the closing stages with three of Mahony's late scores coming from placed balls.
