Sean Galvin - University of Central Florida

Cork-born Sean Galvin will fulfil a boyhood dream when he lines out for the University of Central Florida against Penn State University in Saturday's American football college match at Croke Park.

The 24-year-old was a promising Gaelic footballer and hurler in his native Bandon before moving to the US nine years ago. He has since excelled as a kicker in his adopted sport and is looking forward to this weekend's season-opener of the NCAA football championship

"Growing up as a kid in Cork - that's your dream. No matter what sport you play, you want to play in Croke Park," he told reporters at UCF's training camp in Carton House, Maynooth.

"Now, coming back and being able to look at my family up in the stands, it's going to be amazing.

"Only my mom and dad have seen me play in America, but I've cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents coming to the game now on Saturday. It will be really awesome to see them in the stands. I'll be looking for them," he added.
