JBM "still the best man for the job"

The Sunday Game hurling panelist Tomas Mulcahy.
Tomas Mulcahy is adamant that Jimmy Barry-Murphy remains the best man to bring Cork hurling forward.

JBM's three-year term at the helm came to an end on Sunday when the Munster champions were hammered by Tipperary in Croke Park, but Mulcahy argues that the Rebel County legend is worthy of a contract extension:

"People might look at it and say that a change is needed after three years, but I think he's still the best man for the job," the former Cork captain says in The Irish Examiner.

"From the start, he pointed out that turning Cork's fortunes around was going to be a long-term process and he has probably performed better in that time than people might have expected.

"He has produced some good players and there are more to be found. The lads who are there love playing for him, that's the very strong impression that you get.

"Cork got to the All-Ireland final last year and Jimmy has made five changes to that side and still won Munster this year. They were caught asleep on Sunday, I think in the physical stakes is where a big improvement is needed, but it can be made."
