One of the most hotly-anticipated games in recent years takes place this evening in Canada when Paul Brady faces Robbie McCarthy for a place in the World Handball final.

Brady, who is seeking a fifth consecutive World title, is expected to have a tough task on his hands against Westmeath's McCarthy, who has long been viewed as the pretender to the Cavan man's crown.

McCarthy, the Team Ireland captain, overcame the USA's Sean Lenning on a tie-breaker in yesterday's quarter-final, while Brady saw off Armagh's Charly Shanks 21-9 21-18.

The semi-finals are an all-Irish affair with Cork's Killian Carroll and Diarmuid Nash of Clare meeting in the other last-four tie following their respective quarter-final wins over the American number one and two seeds, Luis Moreno and Emmet Peixoto.

In the ladies, holder Aisling Reilly and Catriona Casey are on course to meet in the final after seeing off the USA's Tracey Davis and Canada's Jessica Gawley in their respective quarter-finals.
