Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy claimed his first ever Senior Singles Handball All-Ireland.
Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy claimed his first ever Senior Singles Handball All-Ireland title in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan yesterday.
The top seed defeated Clare's Diarmuid Nash 21-18 21-5 to win the 40x20 showpiece. The Mullingar man has now won every national handball title there is at the age of 26, which is a remarkable achievement.
The pair were level four times in the opening game before McCarthy finished the stronger. In the second game, the winner raced into an 18-0 lead before Tuamgraney clubman Nash pulled it back to 21-5.
It was also a case of third time lucky for McCarthy after his defeats to Cavan's Paul Brady in the last two 40x20 deciders.
