They Said It ....

April 2006

“I will not be returning with Kerry. When you have to think about it, it’s a sign. In previous years, I would have had the gear bag ready without even thinking about it. I’ve had 10 great years, and played with and against some fantastic footballers, but now it’s time to look at it from the other side.”
Liam Hassett reveals that his lack of hunger meant that it made sense to retire from the Kerry team

“We brought it to the attention of the GAA authorities but were told that it was the luck of the draw. We can't understand that. Why we should we have to play so many away games?"
Fermanagh PRO Tommy Curry is understandable unhappy that his county have played four of their seven league games away from home in each of the past four years

“At this stage I have not made any call on it either way. Peter (Forde) was in touch about it and I intend to speak to him after our game on Friday week (against St. Gall’s). It’s a tough thing to do in a county like Galway where both teams are highly competitive. But I’d prefer to speak to Peter before saying anything else about it.”
Salthill’s dual star Alan Kerins is non-committal about whether he will play with the Galway footballers in 2006

“I just don’t want to make announcements. I’d be happier to leave the door open if my mind did change. Babs has called a few times and in fairness he’s been very good about it and he’s been very good to me in the past.”
Tipperary ace Tommy Dunne is in two minds whether to continue in the hurling colours of the Premier County

“Our season is only really starting, now that we have a fairly strong squad to choose from. The hunger and determination is still there in the squad, and we are all hoping that Paul McGrane can lead us to further successes in the coming season. The rest of the counties have been forewarned that Armagh are back and they mean business.”
Armagh boss Joe Kernan after his side picked up their first league win of the season against Galway

“Goalkeepers have been using all sorts of tees so we thought it would make sense to develop one specifically for Gaelic football. We worked hard to come up with the best design, which I now believe we have achieved.”
