They Said It ....

April 2005

"It’s the second most important competition on the calendar, but we can’t have Croke Park for the semi-finals. That’s not right."
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte expresses disappointment at the fact that the NFL semi-finals wouldn’t be played in Croke Park for the second year in-a-row.

“I think the new rules are quite good, but we have got to do something about the refereeing. Every game you play is completely different. It’s not fair to the players.”
Cavan manager Eamon Coleman is more concerned about the application of the rules than their actual make up

"If nothing else, the rules experimentation has highlighted the ambivalence that currently exists with regards to discipline and fair play. It is not possible to talk about sportsmanship and proper disciplinary standards and, at the same time, to have a situation where players can accumulate yellow cards without impunity.”
The GAA’s Pat Daly strongly backs the idea of players picking up match suspensions if they consistently pick up yellow cards“

Things have gone great so far, and it's a very welcome change not to have pain in my knee after training. It had got so bad that I couldn't train two nights a week, and landing on the ground after jumping, and pushing off my left foot when starting to run was very uncomfortable. Even when walking up stairs, I got a pain in my knee.”
Derry star Enda Muldoon is upbeat about his new pain free knee following an operation to cure the tendonitis he has suffered for the past three years

“We could have gone to the Canaries in January, but we decided that it would be more beneficial to have a training week at Easter, when the students and the teachers in the panel would be on holidays."
Clare manager Anthony Daly explains why his charges chose to go to the Algarve for a weeks training camp in March

“Mark is my own flesh and blood. What father would not be hurt to hear cowardly and cruel comments directed at him from so-called Tyrone supporters?”
Mickey Harte lashes out at the minority of Tyrone support who cheered the substitution of his son Mark, during a recent NFL game

“It is great to be back up in Division 1 again and it will be nice to get a crack at it. Not taking away from our other games in this division, but for a lot of our players it was their first time to play really crunch match.”
Meath manager Sean Boylan is pleased to get away from Division 2A after their final day win against Cavan in Navan

"If I was to pick a player in Ireland to have the ball in his hands when time is up and you need a point, then Paul Finlay would be the man."
Monaghan manager Seamus McEnaney knew that the right man had the ball as Paul Finley landed the equalising point against Longford in the third minute of added time which ensured the Farney County of promotion to Division 1
