For all your floodlighting options ...

Floodlighting or sports lighting as it is often referred to, is a relatively new phenomena in the GAA and Austin Stack Park in Tralee holds the distinction of being the first inter-county ground in the country to be fitted with a full floodlight facility. Pairc Ui Rinn in Cork and Dublin's Parnell Park are just two top grounds that are set to follow suit this year. At the recently launched Strategic Review former GAA President Peter Quinn commented on the use of floodlit venues and said it was something he wished to see in each county.

In Westmeath it has been decided that all U21 football championship matches will be played under lights and it is only a matter of time before other counties follow suit. Given that most counties have upwards on 100 club grounds, then the growth in the floodlight sector will be immense over the next few years.

It is the way forward as other sports have already gone down this road and it is the obvious next step for the GAA to take. GAA people who are involved in tennis, soccer, greyhound racing and rugby have already seen the benefits from floodlighting, and these other sports continue to invest in their facilities.

The installation of floodlights is usually grant aided and there are a number of suitable companies who can complete such a project from start to finish. The days of high wattage lights being attached to old telegraph poles are long gone and often a specialist is the only way to get such a job properly done in the long-term.
