Glasnevin-based company ECI Lighting Ltd are the sole agents for Abacus Lighting - one of the world's leading sports lighting specialists - in the Republic of Ireland. ECI Lighting Commercial Sales Director Declan Hanratty reveals the company's plans to break into the GAA market.

A privately owned Irish company, ECI Lighting has been at the forefront of the lighting industry in Ireland since 1960. In the past 18 months, the company has become the sole agents in the Republic of Ireland for Abacus Lighting - one of the world's leading sports lighting specialists - and are eager to make GAA clubs aware of this fact.

“We specialise in specification and wholesale distribution but in recent times we have branched out into the area of sports lighting,” explains ECI Lighting Commercial Sales Director Declan Hanratty.
“We recently installed floodlighting at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club and at the Ferrypark multi-purpose sports complex in Dublin and we are now keen to break into the GAA market.

The Challenger range of floodlights have been carefully designed to satisfy the customer of a diverse range of lighting applications at every possible level of competition. All aspects of design have been considered to ensure maximum performance and practicality.

The Challenger range is as follows:-
Challenger 1: A double asymmetric distribution, Glass floodlight range designed for lighting outdoor sports grounds and smaller sports stadiums, where high performance is an essential requirement.
Challenger 2: An asymmetric distribution floodlighting system used primarily for side lighting sports systems, including roof mounting in stadiums.

Challeger 3: A symmetric distribution range of performance floodlights designed primarily for floodlighting large sports stadiums using corner mast system.


AL5210 Series: A versatile floodlight with a wide range of beam types offering low light pollution qualities. Ideally suited to lighting of general multi-use sports areas, including tennis courts.
Abacus caters for all sports, all venues at all levels of competition. Among the sports it has catered for include hockey (all weather sports pitches), soccer, American football, rugby, athletics, cricket, golf, tennis, baseball and horse racing. The company can also provide sports lighting for multi-use play areas and school and college sports facilities.

Founded 42 years ago, ECI Lighting employs 22 staff at its base in Glasnevin. Its managing director is Colm Hanratty, brother of Declan. ECI has been the exclusive sole agent for Concord Lighting products for the past 30 years (their first export customer). Concord has a long standing reputation for quality, performance and excellence and is internationally recognised as the company at the forefront of lighting design and technology. The Concord range includes downlighters, uplighters, wall lights, spotlights, track systems, low voltage systems and linear systems.

More recently, ECI was appointed sole distributor for the SLI Group, which includes the distribution of Sylvania Lamps, Linolite and Lumiance products. ECI also has distribution agreements with Bega, Boom, Glashutte Limburg, Regent, Wever and Ducre, Fumagalli, ASD, BJC, Viokar, Eastern Transformers and, of course, Abacus Lighting.

ECI's countrywide distribution network has been built up over a number of years and the company enjoys a strong working relationship with the country's largest network of electrical wholesalers.

ECI's specification division supplies a wide range of quality architectural lighting to numerous high profile projects throughout the country.
