Football clubs accused of pushing Galway vote through
December 18, 2008
Galway hurling board vice-chairman Michael Kelly has accused football clubs in the county of pushing through the vote that will see the Tribesmen compete in the Leinster hurling championship for the first time in 2009.
The Ballinderreen clubman claims that if the decision was left to the hurling clubs, there was no way Galway would be playing in Leinster next year.
Kelly, who was a recipient of a GAA President's Award earlier this year, said he was strongly opposed to the move to Leinster.
"The vast majority of hurling people in Galway were against it but we never got the chance to vote on it," he said.
"The decision was taken by the county board and the only way it was carried was that the football clubs voted for it for some reason."
Kelly predicted that hurling in Galway would suffer because of a decision which, he claims, was made by the football clubs in the county.
