Galica v France in a GAA Football Match?

Galicia is a region in the northwest of Spain akin to Donegal you could say. Santiago de Compostela which you all know, is in the middle of it. In 2010 there was no GAA club there until some Galician guy who came back from a stint in Ireland with an O'Neills size 5. Now there are 14 GAA clubs there and approx 500 men and ladies playing there - and they love it. About 10 of them are Irish! This Saturday they play France (yep, all French natives) in the first ever GAA match to be brooadcast live in mainland Europe!! There has been some support from HQ on this: Gaelic Football capturing the imagination in Galicia These will be the first of many Gaelic Football games shown on the Galician TV Station. They have signed a TV deal to show all the Galician matches. So please tune in from 4pm and get the viewing numbers up. Even if you have it on the laptop whilst you are watching the rugby. The Ladies match was something else! Nothing between the sides and 2 great comebacks during the game. The Mens match just shows that the French team has gotten even better. The 2 sides met during the World Games back in August and there were only 2 points between the sides (Albeit in match that was a third of the time) Hard to know how many were at it was there were people watching from behind the camera as well. Will try and get an official attendance figure but there was easily close to 200 there if not more. Will be interesting to see what sort of viewership the online stream got. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a few hundred at it. Was at the first round of the pan euros in Galicia two years ago and there were stands full of local people watching the games, maybe 500 people. What they've achieved out there is amazing, a league of maybe 15 teams composed entirely of local players, from a starting point of zero 5 years ago. Fantastic hospitality out there too. I think they play GAA in the Basque Country as well, they have a team called Tolosa Gaels and the shirt is on the O'Neills site. Loads of teams from France where GAA seems to be very popular.
