Well done to both sides (The cilles and Westport) on an unbelievable game of football. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 19/02/2017 17:41:21 1958306 Link 3 |
Gutted but so so proud of players and coaches, thank you all for a fantastic journey, you owe us nothing. On a side note Graham Reilly took Lee Keegan for a tour of croke park, now perhaps the uneducated will stop with the rubbish of Graham not turning up on big days, he certainly showed up today and gave the poty a torrid time. Again thank you cilles. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 19/02/2017 18:55:37 1958340 Link 2 |
Fair play Wayno. Hard luck cillies and well done Westport. I'm hoping Lee will be climbing those steps later this year ;) he had a quiet day by his own standards...his brother Phil had a great game I thought yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 19/02/2017 20:37:18 1958399 Link 0 |

Apparently Westport's entire full forward line are doing the Leaving Cert this year. Who'd fancy taking them on at colleges level?! roundball (Tipperary) - Posts: 2514 - 19/02/2017 21:58:37 1958438 Link 0 |

Well done Westport, a great achievement and a much needed boost for the county gaa scene as a whole. They also have a few very promising young pacy forwards who will have come to the attention of the county u-21 selectors on the basis of that performance. Their first goal in particular was a peach. Can you see them doing much at senior level Yew Tree? Look like a side on the up.

A very strange refereeing decision nearly cost Westport the game - the penalty incident. Torcaill (Australia) - Posts: 204 - 20/02/2017 09:15:37 1958523 Link 0 |
Very hard to say really. With so many young players the odds that they all stay local is probably low.

Hard luck RD. Now do you understand the Fermanagh fans in the QF in 2015?

Yeah I think that was a rush of blood to the head, fair play to the ref he was blocked from seeing the trip but listened to umpire who informed him, I think Westport were surprised by the pace with f cilles, a guy beside me couldn't believe how fast Graham Reilly was for a big man, he said Keegan wouldn't have expected that turn of pace from him. There is a bit of the old perception of Meath teams been big strong men that can't run , Meath have one of the fastest half forward lines in country royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/02/2017 09:38:43 1958529 Link 0 |
royaldunne, while the ref listened to the umpire and awarded the black card, he was not permitted by rule to award the penalty. Torcaill (Australia) - Posts: 204 - 20/02/2017 09:48:13 1958534 Link 0 |

Congrats to Westport on a deserved win but very hard luck to St. Colmcilles for never giving up. They did themselves and the club proud with their successes this last year or so and will be remembered as heroes forever within the parish for their achievements. Sorry under the rules he was perfectly correct to issue penalty, the cilles player was taken down in square before ball went out, therefore been deliberately tripped while trying to retrieve ball, it was stupidity on behalf of goalie (don't want to be hard on the lad we all do stupid things) but it was clearly a black card and penalty
